A Greenpeace study found that many of the recipients featured in the Sunday Times Rich List received over £10 million in land subsidy last year
16 out of the 100, if not more, of the largest pay-outs following the single payment scheme last year funded businesses owned by people featured in the Sunday Times Rich List according to Greenpeace. One in five went to businesses owned or run by members of families belonging to the aristocracy, including the Queen and the Duke of Northumberland.
Greenpeace also found that four businesses in the Top 100 are owned through offshore companies. One MP, Richard Drax (Conservative) received hundreds of thousands of pounds for his country estate in Dorset.
